Other Churches, including the Church of England, also require a
candidate for ordination to have somewhere to exercise their ministry,
either paid or unpaid. Generally this will be in a parish but there are
exceptions such as working in a school or college. Rowan Williams is
someone who did that. His first post as an ordained perrson was as Tutor
of Westcott House, a seminary in Cambridge. Only later did he have his
one parochial appointment, as Honorary Curate for a parish in Cambridge
while he was a lecturer at the University.
