[Magdalen] Goodwill Ambassador?

I am very glad to see that the newly elected head of the World Health
Organization has been persuaded to revoke the appointment of Mugabe as a
Goodwill Ambassador. While I have no objection in principle to various
UN organizations appointing Goodwill Ambassadors to promote their
organizations this particular nomination showed a singular lack of
understanding by the official concerned. He may have been elected with a
mandate to rid the organization of perceived political bias but his
choice of Robert Mugabe showed a profound lack of knowledge of the
history of Zimbabwe under Mugabe's rule. How could somebody be
considered a Goodwill Ambassador when he is precluded, because of his
actions, from travelling to a significant part of the world? This
reflects very badly on the Director General and whether he is the right
person to hold that position.

Given what has happened to the former bread-basket of Africa under his rule it is an understatement to say that my mind boggles at this appointment.
