Electric candles at each window year round are commonly seen here in
NE Pennsylvania USA. I've asked about them, because they are not
commonly seen in the Upper Midwest USA, and I usually get "It's a Slavic
custom." Yet, residents of Slavic ancestry here have denied that. Go figure.
Another custom is artificial Easter eggs on bushes around Easter. I get the
same explanation as the candles in the windows.
I've been told that the little white Christmas type lights on shrubs and trees
started on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and has been widely adopted in
the rest of the USA. That's where I first saw them used.
