Money does speak louder than words sometimes.

For many decades, TEC Diocese of Eau Claire was kept afloat by funds
provided by a family whose wealth derived from an extensive construction
company.  For both the Cathedral parish and the Diocese itself, after the
yearly stewardship campaign concluded, this family would top the campaign
with bounteous gifts that guaranteed success (and then some!) for budgets.

Naturally, it was very difficult for the clergy to say no to this family, who, wouldn't
you know, had been Presbyterian.  They seemed to want the Eau Claire Diocese
to be Presbyterian with fancier vestments.  For decades, then, the Cathedral
was more low church than elsewhere in that "Beretta Belt."  It took a couple of
new generations, raised Episcopalian, for the Cathedral parish to crawl out
from under a Presbyterian veneer.

Being Presbyterian is fine.  However, it is not in an Anglican high church diocese.

(Perhaps one shouldn't expect any better from benighted rich Republican Texans whose families were probably Baptist a generation or two back.)
