Was the Blizzard of ‘78, remembered “fondly” by those of us who lived in the Boston area then. I was working in Waltham just off 128 at the time and living in Concord, less than 10 miles away. Like most, I left work early but it still took ~2 hours to get home. Others of my co-workers weren’t so lucky – some had to travel south on 128 to get home and were stuck in their cars on 128 overnight.

Once the storm was over and the roads were semi-plowed (still no auto travel allowed) I remember walking ~1/4 mile down Thoreau St. with a little red wagon to the AAA Market to get groceries. At Friendly’s next door there were at least as dozen customers’ cross-country skis stuck in a snow bank. I remember the time as a nice restful “vacation” with little to distract us. However, once I got back to work it was only a week or so until the Pittsburgh Conference, our biggest trade show of the year. We did make it OK, as I recall.

Somewhere I have pictures of all this, but I have no idea where they might be – possibly in one of our outbuildings, currently inaccessible due to snow & ice in front of the doors.
