That is a valid thought.  The ironic aspect of this is that the Strangs, homesteading in
Western MN (Alexandria region), were surrounded by Scandinavians, especially
Swedish immigrants. but had an aversion of being "tainted" with Scandinavian blood.
My father, who was blond as a child, was forced to walk at least ten feet behind the
rest of the Strang family for fear someone would think they were ethnic Swedes.
 
Yet, through the Scottish connection or intermarriage somewhere in the course
of their wanderings down from PEI (or even ON PEI), they picked up considerable
Scandinavian DNA.

David, remember that the Scots have considerable Norse ancestry, thanks to
Viking raiders/settlers...particularly northern Scots. Clan Gunn, for
instance, is an almost entirely Norse clan, and inhabitants of the Orkneys
and Shetlands ate likely to have very high percentages of Scandinavian in
their DNA.
