Yes, the Lake Shore Limited goes overnight from Chicago to Boston (or New
York). We took it a few years back as part of a rail journey from LA to
Boston. Most enjoyable.
There are also trains from New York to Vermont - one to Rutland and another
more-or-less paralleling I-91 & I-89.

I have travelled from Chicago to Newark. I remember being met there by my
s.o. It was a simple busride to New York but getting to Vermont. I'd love to
take the train. Is there still a New England train from Chicago to Boston?
We took the Capitol LImited in the 90's and it was still quite nice but
frightfully off schedule.
