Hi David,
I am an alumnus of Mundelein and 50 years ago I could have been one of those newly ordained priests.
The day after I was ordained on May 14, 1969 I attended the Festival of the Ascension at Ascension with Bishop Montgomery pontificating.
In the late 80's The Episcopal Church and the Roman Catholic Church of Chicago established a covenent. We went in procession from Holy Name Cathedral to St. James Cathedral to seal the covenant.
We had a similar ceremony with the Lutherans (probably ELCA) and another with the Greek Orthodox to celebrate the anniversary of the lifting of the anathemas.
This was with Cardinal Bernardin.
This was what I was used to.
In time I have become more flexible. With noone's permission I receive communion wherever I attend, lately the MOravian Church in Stone Mountain where I am the music director.
When I am free I regularly attend St. John Chrysostom Melkite Catholic church.
Yesterday at Sts. Sergius and Bacchus we celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the 19th anniversary of our deacon's ordination and the dual feasts of St. Kilian (pre schism martyr missionary from Ireland to Germany) and Great Martyr St. Procopius.
I was the principal celebrant at the Divine Liturgy.
