[Magdalen] Jeff Sessions Brought Up On Church Charges

Liturgical style in university and theological schools in general would
tend to be "higher" than in most congregations.  As my (Methodist
minister) father would have said, "That's where they'll do things right,
even if nowhere else."   And I would think that an Easter liturgy being
televised would likely be the most elaborate of the year (equaled only
by Christmas Eve, again often observed with a midnight service rarely
encountered in the average congregation).

Of course my father died in 1981, and since then my mother (who died in
2003) usually came to our (Episcopal) church when we were together (the
liturgy she grew up on having closely resembled that of Anglican Morning
Prayer).  I do not pretend to know what's going on in the Methodist
world these days.  Official polity may not have changed much, but an
extremely conservative (or I should say anti-liberal) party within
Methodist ranks has been highly influential since the 1970's if not
earlier.  There is  a "Methodist" seminary that is not affiliated with
the United Methodist Church just as there is an "Episcopal" seminary (or
more than o ne) not affiliated with TEC but preferred by some bishops.
