[Magdalen] Why the choice of Gospels today?

In 2006 when General Convention approved the Revised Common Lectionary with
use to begin Advent 2007, it included a provision for the Ecclesiastical
Authority to be able to give permission to worshiping communities to
continue to use the BCP lectionary until beginning of Advent 2010. ("for
the purposes of orderly transition")

Then at GC 2012 a resolution was passed that authorized use of the
lectionary for Sundays and Holy Days as originally printed in the BCP 1979
with permission of the Ecclesiastical Authority.

It is my understanding that that permission has not been rescinded by
General Convention. So with Bishop's approval, Scott's congregation can
still be using the 1979 BCP lectionary.
