Hertz? Boyoboy, did we have a terrible experience with them last year!!
Never again! We signed on with them for a van...a VAN, mind you, to take us
to the Tennessee gem show so we wouldn't have the hassle of trying to stuff
everything into our Chevy Equinox once again (also, because the Chevy is
getting pretty elderly and has beaucoups de kilos on it). They assured us
it would be there at 2:30 the afternoon before we were to leave..So that
morning the guy from the office calls and says, sorry, no van, but we'll
have a Ford SUV for you. So we go there at the appointed time and the
office is locked with a note on the door "Gone to assist another customer".
No number to call, nothing. Not like S/O's time is valuable or anything.
Finally about 3;15 dude gets back with a female in his car and opens the
office, ushers us inside. S/O inquires whether the SUV we've been looking
at outside is the one and dude says yes, so we all go out to measure it
inside to see if it will suffice. It appears that it will but when we go
back in S/O has some choice words, delivered in a polite and measured tone,
about the service and what he'd expected, particularly since the dude now
informs him there is an up-front charge....at which time the female in the
room, who is dressed oh-so-formally in jeans, boots, and leather jacket,
and has been chewing gum and looking at her phone the whole time, pipes up
and informs us that she is the new district manager and she's sorry this
happened. No "What can we do to make it right?" or any such. S/O basically
ignores her beyond ordinary politeness, and only I, apparently, can see the
smoke coming out of his ears. So we took the SUV and it was a decent enough
vehicle, although it had a few odd quirks, especially with the brakes, that
made S/O swear not to go near Fords again. When he took the thing back he
threw the keys on the desk and informed the dude, "I hope I never see YOU
again." He did fire off some incendiary e-mails to the area manager of
Hertz as well as to AAA (since Hertz was *their* choice) but oddly, never
heard back from either one. We're going back to Dollar, Enterprise, and
Budget, none of whom we've ever had a problem with. ^%$#@! Hertz!
