A friend grew up Nazarene in California.
Back in the early sixties, in an act of youthful defiance, she wore
lipstick to church.
Her father took her outside and spanked her.
He made sure they were standing near an open window, so the congregation
could hear her cries and pleas.
When she told me this herstory, some fifty years after, she wept again.

The College of the Nazarene is just down the street from another friend's
house.
I hear they're much closer to mainstream now.
In fact, they might or might not feel the urge to re-join with the southern
Methodists.
