Dear ones,

Another old St. Sam's member still present on this list - I think our
youngest was under 2 for her first list meet, and she is now 25, so it
has been a while.

This winter has been one of "those" winters - somewhere between
catching 3 viruses (so far!) and recovering (mostly), working
full-time on a contract job for the US Gov (CMS kidney disease) that
has had its entire architecture/operations pulled apart and refitted,
responsibilities for our local church and diocese, and the ever
presence of other responsibilities (family & friends), I have had to
triage what energy I have and work out what needs to be done most. It
has seemed a very long winter, though the weather has been mild and
moist. We are already well into an early spring.

Most of my recuperation time this winter has been a mix of reading
nonfiction about trees and forests combined with reading "science
fiction space opera" pure escape books. I've found some new, snarky
authors that are fun, adventurous, and thought-provoking. I am also,
very slowly, reading books about Paul, but am taking my time with them
as they are denser to read for me as I have more science background
than history.

Our oldest son, Bob Landrum, went in for emergency surgery very early
Saturday morning to repair a disastrous hernia. He is in hospital
recuperating (and very aware that his internal organs are moving
around into new positions). He will be on bed rest and a liquid diet
for quite a while as he heals. Of your mercy, healing prayers for him,
his wife Catherine, and their 4-year-old, energetic daughter Emma.

Looking forward, in the time of coronavirus and fluid genders,
increasing migration and setting up bulwarks around like-minded
micro-communities, increasing climate and social change, what do you
see as vital for our churches?

gentle, virtual hugs all around - Cady
from rural Virginia near the northern Blue Ridge Mountains
where it is sunny & clear -
and the local critters are out browsing our "salad bar"
