Christopher, not to worry. Wondering about unsubbing is not the same as
doing it. My thoughts are mostly wishful thinking for St. Sam's and
Magdalen's days of yore when our conversations were lively and we seemed
more of a diverse community of friends who had Anglicanism in common. I
will soon be 73 years old - I've been retired 4 years. Each of us is older
now; some have passed into larger life and we miss them. Our community has
changed which is certainly to be expected.

Anyway, both of our manifestations, St. Sam's and now Magdalen, offered
real and vital support as the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina split
from TEC and the rebuilding that began immediately to reorganize the
remnant into a diocese with Episcopal parishes and missions. Such a holy
work, and I was blessed to be active in diocesan and missional leadership
in the early years of reestablishment. Judy and Bill Fleener, Mary Jane
Anderson, Renee Rutkowski, Roger Stokes, Eleanor Braun and so many others
supported me spiritually and educationally in those years.

John and I were among the 17 members of laity and clergy in SC who signed
the letter to TEC disciplinary board for bishops asking them (3 times in as
many years) to look into the activity of Bp Mark Lawrence. Finally, they
did and he was deposed in October 2012. That freed South Carolina to begin
reorganizing. The Lawrence diocese has obfuscated litigation, which they
brought, at every turn. Property disposition remains a muck with no end in
sight. Some new missions that flourished at first with great home are now
floundering, others are doing well. The Episcopal Church of the Good
Shepherd that John and I helped organize in Summerville falls into the
latter category. We are flourishing with 117 members plus 34 awaiting
confirmation and transfer. Our stewardship is strong, as is or outreach
ministries. We have two parttime priests, each of whom is gifted preachers
and teachers. We are on the edge of growing out of rented space, which we
converted into a lovely liturgical space. I served as the organizing
senior warden at Good Shepherd. As others have moved into leadership, I
still maintain the webpage and Facebook site. I feel and believe that our
formation as Good Shepherd has been, for each and every member, even
newcomers who continue to worship weekly, has been the equivalent of having
a baby in old age...a bunch of Abrahams and Sarahs among our congregation!
