I believe I know Edwin Johnson. If I'm correct, he used to be the
assistant rector at St. James, Porter Square (Cambridge, MA), which is
my older son's parish, before becoming rector of St. May's Dorchester a
number of years ago. [BTW, one would *never* say "St. Mary's, Boston",
which is why I didn't recognize it at first. Always "St. Mary's,
Dorchester". Dorchester is a large neighborhood in Boston which long ago
was a separate town]. He is black with dreadlocks, which perhaps may be
a stretch for some in Chicago. I remember him as being enthusiastic and
very outgoing - e. g., leading a line dance up the aisle at St. James.
Definitely an extrovert.

St. Mary's has long been an active, vibrant urban parish with a
multicultural congregation - predating Rev. Johnson. It's been the home
of the Heavenly Fire Steel Band for, I'd say, at least 20 years now.

Ms. Michaud may know more -
