Our church recently had a quick "vestry retreat" led by the leader of
a local Baptist church who is also an industry leader in presenting
workshops for management teams. (I am the register but not a member of
the vestry.) Of course, his recommendations are more at the church
level than at the individual level.

He recommends, and his church leadership group has stepped up to the
promise, that the church devote the same funding for church facility
improvements as for outreach.

Since our church has been working on a full round of repair and
rehabilitation of all of our buildings over the past few years, still
ongoing (sanctuary & new organ, parish hall, church office house, and
rectory house), the idea was quite a jolt for our vestry. Discussion
of the idea is ongoing.

Our rector just announced his retirement at the end of the year.
Another jolt for the vestry. What an interesting year.
