I'll be 78 on the Feast of St. Martin de Porres November 3. . I will have 20 years with the Irs on June 9 2022 and expect to retire early in 2023 to keep me from quickly distributing funds from the thrfit savings account.
 
I just received a surprise from the Archdiocese of Chicago which gives a monthly pension of $500 a month to priests who resigned from the Archdiocese after 20 years of service. I just found about this.  It is probably the next best thing to a secret. I had to be told by a classmate that this benefits has been around for close to 30 years and I just learned about it. Another classmate has been getting $400 since 2013 because he resigned after 20 years and made it his business to learn about such benefits
 
Travelling back to Chicago in November for our 60h high school reunion (from the high school seminary Quigley named after the Archbishop of Chicago who founded the minor seminary in 2005. About the only the other thing I remember about him is that he confirmed my mother around 2012 in those days chlldren made their solemn first communion in the morning and were confirmed in the afternoon. Simple first communion at age 7 had only been  recently introduced by the then Pope (eventually Saint) Pius X
 
Planning to attend Florencia de las Amazones at the Lyric during my visit which will feature my first plane ride in 20 years and since 911.

John is still working everyday - broker in charge and selling broker of a
real estate office. He turned 75 this past Tuesday. We talk "at" what we
will do and admit the choice is exceedingly difficult. We live in a town
where we grew up, where we will be buried, where each of us has been active
in the community, especially our church, and where we have a lifetime of
friends. Our children are all North Carolinians - sons in Charlotte with
their families and Ginny and her family in Winston Salem. She is rector of
a church there, and as we all know, she will not be there forever. She has
no plans at this time to go anywhere, but when she is called in the future,
that could be anywhere.
 
So, we struggle with what to do and where to go. But, first, John has to
retire, as we imagine our future from our recliners in front of the
television. 😇
