Annie Jump Cannon was born today 151 years ago.
She did work that led to the classification of stars, based on laborious
cataloging of many, many stars' spectral analyses.
She together with a number of others did the calculations that led to the
OBAFGKM system of star classification by the star's heat.  She originated
the mnemonic for remembering the order of the classification which appears
in the subject line.
She was practically deaf during the years she did this work.
