Some 35 years ago, before I left the Upper Midwest, I decided to
build a new energy efficient home on some extra acreage I owned.
 
This resulted in my only experience with a certified architectural  firm
active in West Central Wisconsin.
 
I specified in addition to the solar panels, that the home be  somewhat
rustic, and thus blend into the deep woods of the site.
 
I got, model and all, a sculptural white structure that looked like it  was
straight out of The Hamptons.  True, the solar panels and  orientation
were correct but otherwise, the plan bore no resemblance to my
request.
 
I had paid the minimal fee, and ended the relationship with  these
architects.  They were not happy.  I was not happy.  I  discontinued
any thought of a new energy efficient home.
