Deer hunting in Germany is a gentleman's sport, strictly regulated
by the government. One must first pass a hunter's course with
emphasis on gun techniques and safety issues, and then purchase
the very expensive hunting outfit with tall boots, and woolen forest-
green trousers, jacket, and hat. It's not the kind of thing we have
around here in Pennsylvania (or in my native Wisconsin) where the
neighborhood boys just wear an orange jacket, grab their rifles and
comb the woods.

All the kill must be forfeited to the State, which then sells the venison
to the better restaurants. I don't know whether it's the species of
deer (Western European Red Deer), or the manner of preparation
in the restaurants, but it is, IMHO much more tasty than the North
American White-Tailed Deer. If you see it listed on the menus
(seasonal) it's not to be missed.

Umm. Smeckt gut!
