Actually, Jon, I didn't feel she was out of line--it's hard to convey facial expression and tone here. She was laughing, and I took it as such. I know you're a medical person, and I spent 8 years as a hospital chaplain, and there is a culture there...
The fact is that doctors often misjudge recovery time and difficulty; at least, that's been my experience. And, of course, much depends on the individual patient.
