Having grown up in the RC church where the only cross was a crucifix, I can 
only say that when I discovered the 'empty' cross meant a different story, 
nay, theology than the crucifix, I was smitten.  For me empty is full of 
promise... the promise of promises.


And on a lighter and more sassy note the 'naughty' joke about the non 
religious kid who was sent to 'Catholic School' to get a better education 
because  he was failing first grade... on the first day or second grade at 
his new school he came home with tales of being willing to be "really, 
really good in math, mom and dad" because: "there was a guy in the church 
nailed up on a plus sign..."
