It is said that Presbyterians in Pittsburgh use "debtors" and the
Episcopalians use "trespassers" because the Presbyterians 
were the bankers, and the Episcopalians were the land owners, and
"debtors'" and "trespassers" was appropriate.
 
And in the USA it is to swim upstream to have "trespass" = TRES-pis
and "trespassers" = TRES-pis-ers pronounced correctly.
 
In the USA there is that need to "head them off at the PASS,"
so they become tres-PASS and tres-PASS-ers.  This changes the
vowel pronunciation as well as the word stress.
