In my county, all ambulance service is free to the user. The County
Ambulance Association is supported by taxes and voluntary donations. I
did see a picture in the paper once where the Quapaw tribe donated (I
think) $20,000 to the Cherokee County Ambulance Association. Only the
parking lot of their big casino complex is in this Kansas county: the
rest of it is across the State Line in Oklahoma, but if anyone there
(including the large hotel) needed an ambulance, the closest ambulance
(and EMTs) they could call would be ours. The county repaid them
somewhat later by refusing a liquor license to their parking lot when
they wanted to have an outdoor party there.... Some things around
here seem very strange.
