I think every generation has its own moments of awe.  It used to be that
when the National Geographic came, a new world would open up for anyone who
opened and read, even if the pictures were few, and in black and white only.

I remember the whole neighborhood was outside looking up at the
(fortunately clear) sky to see Telstar fly over.  What excitement to see
this one speck of light moving perceptably across the heavens.
