Yes, I've had friends traveling in from Europe who've taken
rented autos back&forth over the Canadian border (with
prior arrangement). My European friends love Montreal.

In the old days you were required to switch off (because of
licensure ... you needed to be driving a Canadian-licensed
vehicle in Canada), but that's no longer necessary.

We keep a little city car, so when I travel I always rent.
And I drive to Quebec, Montreal, even Moncton and Halifax.
Lovely way to go, great scenery and great people.
