I'm thinking this way: the owners have a considerable amount of money
invested in these guys, whose salaries they have to pay even if they're
hurt and not playing. How much are they losing if the guys are not playing,
they have to hire (and pay) other guys (who might not be as good)? How much
will they lose at the box office if the team is losing and people stop
coming to the games because inferior players are playing instead of the
good ones (as is happening right now to the Washington team? So what is
gained by playing in dangerous conditions?
