Well, this isn't heating-related, but the little church where I help out as priest-associate has really tried to maximize the use of its parish hall with a variety of uses, some pretty standard, some not so much.
Four days a week there is a preschool, not church-affiliated, just renting the space. Everything comes down or gets moved in preparation for Sunday's coffee hour. The local Democrats rent it once a month for their potluck supper; the 4-H group uses it when they need kitchen space for a project. One of our members has a seasonal business making plum puddings that are sold in a number of local stores--she uses the kitchen for several months for that and pays something toward the gas, etc.
The most recent addition to the mix is a local Pentecostal congregation. The storefront they were in was sold, and our vicar offered the use of our building for a Sunday afternoon service. They pay rent, and it seems to be working well; they even had a wedding there last Saturday. I'm planning to attend one of their services; I'm quite intrigued at the thought of a Pentecostal congregation worshipping in a sanctuary with a sanctuary lamp, a stained glass window over the altar (to say nothing of the altar itself!) and Stations of the Cross on the surrounding walls! I think Jesus might approve...
