Your point is well taken. I would be happy to eliminate Columbus day
altogether, not to think of wiping out the recollection of what he
accomplished, but just not have it as a national day at all. That makes
perfect sense. I would rather see the day simply removed, period, than to
have something substituted for it that may or may not be satisfying to
many. The Decoration Day fiasco is a good case in point.
