I was invited to a wedding up in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania some
years ago. It was marriage #2 for bride and groom, who were in their
40's.

The site was a church with an intensely lit sanctuary. The bride's mother,
not to be outdone, was escorted up front shortly before the bridal
procession,
and wearing a brilliant metallic silver dress. The intense lighting picked
up the silver and reflected it throughout the church. It was such that
I longed for sunglasses.

The poor bride, who had elected to wear her formal white gown with
long train from her first marriage, was completely outclassed by her
mother's silver extravaganza.
