Yesterday, we had a Commitment Ceremony -- the couple are members of St
Stephen's (I realize David like to call it the "Pro-Cathedral" but most
folk
around here make gagging faces if you use that appellation) <g>; We had
their
organist, members of their choir and lots of other people up from Wilkes
Barre.
The church was packed.>>>>

I'm curious as to why Saint Luke's, Scranton was chosen for this event?
The presence of much of the musical/choral forces from Wilkes-Barre
adds to the puzzlement.

As to the ProCathedral appellation, that was coined during the first heady
year of +Marshall's pontificate. He liked Saint Stephen's, and had his
consecration there instead of the usual Cathedral in Bethlehem USA.
Along with the name, the Rector of Saint Stephen's and the O/C were
officially dubbed "Canons" (Canon Rector and Canon Musician).

Incidentally, I sang for about a year and a half in the St. Luke's Choir
when Robert Herrema was O/C back in the early 1990's. I couldn't stand
the Saint Stephen's Rector, Don Lyon+ who eventually left Saint Stephen's
under a cloud over a number of issues.

David Strang.
