[Magdalen] pencils

My grandfather used to do The New York Times puzzles in ink.  The longest I ever saw him work on one was ten minutes. Usually he'd do the horizontal clues first, then fill in any vertical spaces left. He'd answer the clues in numerical order, and he never skipped one to "come back to"!

I haven't done crosswords since I stopped taking My Weekly Reader.
