A good Virus program will stop malware downloads in their tracks, and pester you 
if you try to ignore their wisdom.

Also -- make sure to look for little checkboxes for various "add-ons" and 
uncheck them before downloading. You may need to do this again on the actual 
installation once or twice <g>.

I remember especially one program that had the checkbox for Ask.com and another 
piece of idiot-ware at the end of the User Terms and Conditions statement, which 
one could choose to "Agree" without looking at it!
) and before installing, click the "Scan with [AV Program here]) by right 
clicking on the download.

If your AV program doesn’t offer that feature, get a new one.
