My experiences in South Tahoe/State Line (CA/NV) are about 40 years
out of date, but at that time the smallish casino activity in State Line,  
NV
was well tended.  The hotels were clean, above average, and  inexpensive,
because the rent was subsidized by the casinos.  There was no  trash.
 
My son, Kirk, and I used to go there every couple of years because it
was a good base from which to go hiking in the Sierras  That area  is
a conifer-lover's dream with side by side largest hard pine (Pinus
ponderosa and largest soft pine (Pinus lambertiana/Sugar Pine)
everywhere to delight the eyes.
 
I don't know what's happened there subsequently.
