A horrible tale of animal abuse in not exactly a swank neighborhood, but certainly not a dingy one either. The video is a MUST WATCH.

[begin]
On Monday, May 9th, SPCA Humane Investigations Officers were contacted by a Realtor who found a dog and her four 8-week old puppies enclosed in a cardboard box on a property for sale on Josselyn Canyon Road in Monterey. The officers were heartbroken when they saw the condition of the mom and her young pups – they were dehydrated, extremely thin and suffering from severe hair loss, and raw red patches covering much of their bodies.

The Officers immediately brought the dogs to our Veterinary Clinic for a full exam; they were all found to be suffering from demodex, an extremely painful, itchy skin condition that could have easily been treated before becoming this severe. They are now receiving treatment including medication, regular medicated baths, and antibiotics to help with secondary bacterial skin infections and to relieve discomfort (see a heartwarming video of their first bath! -- http://tinyurl.com/gruo4l9 ). The mother, named Josie by SPCA staff, and her pups Juliet, Stanley, Hermie, and Stella are also receiving some much needed love and TLC.

The SPCA for Monterey County is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who abandoned Josie and her pups.
