Nothing would create a fully developed hospital panic quite like  
discovering an
actual case of TB,  especially the pulmonary type.  The 2000  local
employees of the VAMC would then have repeated skin testing, and,  
especially
the personnel in the area of the pulmonary clinic (at one time the  local
VAMC had 5 pulmonologists) and infectious disease clinics were
spotlighted. 
 
 
 
 
David S. Who gave the VAMC his collection of slides of cutaneous TB,  mostly
garnered from the University of Frankfurt/M Dermatology Clinic.  They  had
photographed the large number of such cases with skin manifestations
that occurred during WW-2 and the immediate postwar era when  medical
care in Germany was threadbare and TB was rampant.
