Another plus for Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes, 
even Newfoundland and Labrador is that a large chunk of their
population can be traced to relocated US Americans.
 
That was certain the case for my paternal family that ended up
mostly on PEI but also New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
 
Canada was there to welcome them when they were needed.  In
my family's case it was fleeing the American Revolution.
