[Magdalen] Saturday Marches

Hmm. Well, Grace - I get that I suppose (and am certainly quite dedicated
to closing down any foul mouthed yelling that my teenagers might commence
when gaming carries them away from good manners).

But on the other hand, Madonna is well known for being, well, direct - and
as Scott said earlier, there was a real anger in this march which also
needed to be expressed. She's never been my fave performer, I like the
singer-songwriters with more complex stories to tell, but she's always been
good at confronting patriarchy and has provided a soundtrack for my entire
adult life so I'll cut her some slack.

What annoyed me the most though was that the guy seemed to be a Trump
apologist and didn't seem to understand that from an outside point of view,
perpetrating a four year "Trumpernalia" on the world is a zillion times
more offensive than Madonna or any other celeb giving four-letter vent to
her feelings.

One person who did make me uncomfortable (briefly) was the woman from the
DC rally who spoke about being 'abortion positive". I cannot identify at
all with that and felt that it might alienate pro-life women like myself.
Which is not to say I am against safe and appropriately regulated access to
abortions (I'm not) but for me abortion is not a "positive" in itself and
never could be. Perhaps she meant something different by it, I'm not sure
as I haven't come across that self-identifier before.

I guess this is part of what is meant by "intersectional feminisms" or
whatever - that many diverse voices are represented and we concentrate on
the areas of common ground without denying the many profound disconnections
as well. Very postmodern (and cool).
