There is still a remnant of gratis activities in the medical world.
 
I have seen the complete disappearance of physician  care  with
no charge to nurses, other physicians and their families, the clergy
and the religious, etc., etc.  If I had a nickel for every such  free-be
I gave away in the 1960's through the 1980's, I'd have a retirement
villa on the French Riviera.
 
Still holding out is the gratis training of physician residents and
medical school students.  I did such teaching for several  decades.
It was rewarding to me, and, I think the students of all levels, but
I wondered from time to time whether I was being taken advantage
of.  I have a feeling that down the road this teaching will be  paid.
