I think it can depend on the size of the church,
the talents of the laity,
and very much on the church’s personality.

(Churches do have personalities and mine is typical New England chilly.)

As an example,
last year I was in one of the Harvard teaching hospitals,
in intensive care and gravely ill.
The gf called the rector and he visited.
After the POP that Sunday,
people called and visited the *other* Margaret in the church,
a very elderly woman who was baptized there
and has been far more active than I ever have.
She assured them all that she was just fine,
and the matter was dropped.
