[Magdalen] Fwd: Re: silence?

I'm still here as well. We've been busy with updates still outstanding
projects from our house remodeling in the Spring. We had such a negative
experience with our contractor that we just stopped doing anything for a
while. It's been about six months now and we (and our budget) are finally
getting back on track again. We painted our dining room yesterday (Navy
Blue) and will tackle the front hall powder room this week. We've picked a
beautiful royal purple. It's going to be a bit shocking but it's a tiny
room and it should make quite a statement. (My husband is even bolder in
his color choices than I am in mine!) We finally agree on and located some
great fabrics to reupholster living room furniture. We found a store in an
industrial area east of downton that specializes in upholstery fabric. They
have some great stuff and we even could three of them on sale! The tile
contractor came by yesterday and we're waiting to get his estimate for
finishing the backsplash in the kitchen and adding a new stone face and
hearth to the fireplace in the living room.

All this activity was prompted by finding out we're hosting this year from
Thanksgiving. In additional to 6 (or so) local friends, Alex' first cousin
and her husband will be here from Mexico City. They are expecting a baby in
March. My friend Mary Ann from Houston and (probably) my sister from the
western reaches of Texas will be too. That would bring us to 10 to 12 which
is manageable. We've invited my niece and her family from Fort Worth but
they aren't sure what they are doing yet. If they join us, that would
probably add 10 more with in-laws, etc. That will be a little more
challenging but as far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier. If I've got
to cook a turkey anyway, it may as well be a big one! ;-)

I've moved into a new position in Marketing at USAA. I'm enjoying it but
there is more stress than I would like. We've had a busy fall at church as
well. I'm the president of our condo HOA and this has been a crazy year for
that. We're a small community (63 townhouses) but there has been a lot
happening. New roofs in the Spring, converting an unused tennis court to a
dog park this summer and we're about to repave all our driveways/parking
areas.

So, life is super busy but very, very good. I have the best husband ever
and he is very understanding of all the craziness that life with me
entails. I've enjoyed being part of a much larger family but I think I'm
glad they are in various places in Mexico. I like their visits here and I
really enjoy our visits there...but there is enough going on here without
the addition of so many tios/tias and primos/primas! (Don't tell Alex I
said that!) But, it's really wonderful the way that have accepted us and
welcomed me into their family!

So much to be grateful for these days!!!

Peace, Rick

P.S. Malcolm is doing great. He will be NINE years old in December. It's
really hard to believe. He's showing his age a little. He is a little stiff
in the mornings and gets tired pretty quickly. But, then again, that
applies to me as well! ;-)
