I was about 45 at which point I was outed by my ex-wife.  This backfired on her aswell as me  This outing caused professional problems in the clinic where I had worked with aspotless record for 18 years.   It turns out that the Clinic Board was a group of Upper
Midwestern rednecks.  There was a clause in my contract that stated I could be fired withoutcause if the Clinic Board so desired.  I was summarily fired, and I resolved never to work foran organization that was discriminatory.  The USVA already had a strong anti-discriminationclause in the matter of sexual orientation, and that's how I ended up moving to Pennsylvania.
My family, incidentally has always been completely supportive of my sexuality.
As to my "outer" ex-wife, she got less support  because my income was less at the VAthan in private practice.
