I have noticed that there are only a few postings on Magdalen - I remember
the days when there were a lot more people involved a lot more posts and
the Listgive... Ah the listgive!! A couple of weeks ago searching for
something I thought I had lost I found a very pretty cross that someone
gave me as a Listgive... I had thought it had gone missing but there it
was...
Anyway I am playing a couple more services before end of year - trouble is
I have so many favorite hymns and pieces and only 2 services to cram them
into...Not sure if I will go through to the New Year the church has decided
that music is non essential to worship and so cut my hours...I did notice
when I was there that they had canned music ... The younger of the two
priests ploayed Leonard Cohen's Come healing... not sure what that had to
do with our sermon topic but there you have it!! of course the sermon
always ends up talking about Covid... and I am getting tired of hearing
about it yes it is here yes we have to cope with it.. but we have to go on
as bet we can..
So I am still trying to figure out what to play... so I play a prelude
portion then I play during the beginning of the Communion itself as the
elements are being prepared and then during the communion itself as people
come up one at a time... then I Play them out...Not sure what they will
hear tomorrow... quite often I have a few in mind but decide to go as the
Spirit leads... I have keyboards here so I practice here it is a 46 k drive
round-trip and with things so unsure with them I have decided to just go on
the Sunday and Christmas Eve.. not doing another trek...
I am thinking of doing Mary's Boy Child by Jester Hairston (I have an
original copy of that music which came from Scotland back in the day it
cost 5 shillings!! and has harp notation..) This is a priceless pirce of
mnusic and one I guard .... and save for special occaions... Perhaps that
is Christmas Eve appropriate??
