My parents were in Syracuse 1964-70. My dad taught at the university in the
geography department. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the
street they lived on but Bill and Betty Schiess were their next door
neighbors and I got to know them pretty well when I visited. (I stayed in
Madison where I'd grown up). My mom attended Grace Church with the
Schiesses ( Dad was still unchurched, although he'd grown up Northern
Baptist) and was active with the kids' after school program they had, where
she was a reading tutor. Dad finally got disgusted with the weather up
there and took the chairmanship of the geography department at University
of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1970. They moved to Tennessee that year and we
followed them in 1973.
