This situation reminds me of South Carolina. The State courts sided with 
the breakaway group. At least there the State Supreme Court decided in 
favour of the Episcopal Church and Diocese and remitted it for their 
decision to be implemented. The Judge charged with doing that has not 
been diligent in doing so.  The federal courts in the SC case have 
decided that the breakaway group breached trademark legislation in 
presenting as the authentic Diocese. I notice also, but don't claim to 
know the implications, that SCOTUS has recently decided that cases in 
state courts don't need to be determined before a case is presented in 
federal court.
